Community Gardens

fairport_community_garden_finalThose who live or work in the Village of Fairport Harbor now have the opportunity to participate in community gardening at the 9,000 square foot Fairport Heritage Community Garden. (A Fairport Harbor Heritage Foundation project completely funded by grants, donations and volunteers.)

The garden is governed by organic gardening practices and has 24+ garden beds, communal fruit bushes, herbs and root vegetable area, a fully stocked toolshed, a compost system and a shaded seating area with sandbox. The site has access to water (city and rain barreled), provides security with a 10’ tall deer fence and padlocked gate and convenient parking located behind the Senior Center.

Gardeners will provide their own plants or seeds and water and all the necessary gardening implements will be supplied. Families may chose no more than 2 plots each season and the limit is 2 adults per application form. If there are more interested parties than plots, a waitlist will be created. The garden plots are renewed on a yearly basis every January, priority given to existing plot renters and growing season starts officially in May, but those wishing to grow cool weather crops may have early season garden access. Cost depends on plot size and range from $20-$80 per year.
